What is the difference between HID Fargo DTC and HDP printers?
DTC (direct-to-card) printers such as the DTC1250e, DTC1500 and DTC4500e print straight onto the card and are the most economical choice for everyday employee and student IDs. HDP (retransfer) printers such as the HDP5000 and HDP6600 print onto a film that is then fused to the card, giving over-the-edge prints, better results on chip and proximity cards, and more durable cards.
Which ribbons does the HID Fargo HDP5000 use?
The HDP5000 uses HID Fargo full-panel colour ribbons (YMCK, YMCFK with a UV fluorescing panel, or YMCKK with a second black panel) together with HID Fargo HDP retransfer film. Both are needed to print.
Can HID Fargo printers encode smart cards and RFID cards?
Yes. Most HID Fargo models can be configured with encoding modules for magnetic stripe, 125 kHz proximity, and contact or contactless (13.56 MHz) smart cards, so cards are printed and encoded in one pass.
